The painting "Bouquet. The painter, whose name went down in the history of painting thanks to portraits, genre scenes and philosophical works on a religious theme, suddenly writes a delightful floral still life.
The viewer sees beautiful bright phloxes that delight with freshness and a variety of colors. Particularly noteworthy is the image of greenery - very bright, somewhere even harsh, green involuntarily sends us to the Impressionists, although Kramskoy cannot be ranked among them. All solemn beauty is shaded by a blue low vase, on the glass of which the reflections of light are so filigree displayed.
Although this work is not typical of the painter, some features of the style can still be found here - neglect of the background in the name of the main thing. Almost the same as in the portraits of Kramskoy. The artist refuses the background, as from an extra detail of the picture, making it brown with barely noticeable tints, and then these overflows seem to arise as a reflection of a delightful bouquet.
In the year of writing, the author’s family suffered a great tragedy - the death of Mark’s little son. All the grief of the family can be felt by looking at the work “Inconsolable grief”, and perhaps the bright, cheerful phloxes that Kramskoy worked on were a way to distract from sad thoughts.
